Comments On This Program
Putting PayPal first is a no-brainer. The unarguable industry leader, if you want the safest place online to keep money, this is it. Many payment processors have tried to steal the top spot with no luck yet. I remember when I once had high hopes for Google Checkout but their fatal flaws were not allowing you to store funds on your account and not letting you send money to other non-merchant members. They will never be the PayPal-killer the oracle promised unless and until they fix those problems.
While PayPal may be the safest method of online transaction, many do feel they have been wronged by the payment processor. An Australian tabloid television program even did an exposé on their customer service:
The best strategy for avoiding your very own PayPal horror story is to actually read and be familiar with their terms of service (they call it their "Acceptable Use Policy," BTW) and to communicate clearly and often with customer service about who you are and what you are doing. Take a minute and try to see what you're doing from an outsider's perspective. Honestly assess whether a reasonable person with limited knowledge about your endeavors would have concerns about what you're doing, and make sure to proactively address those concerns with a customer service rep. Don't underestimate the value of calling their customer service number in lieu of or in addition to e-mail communications. Be sure to express your own concerns about possibly loosing your account and having your assets frozen over some misunderstanding. Nip these problems in the bud before they become real problems. And if they ever do become real problems contact them about it right away and persist until you get what you need.
Don't forget PayPal is #1 and they are successful because they do provide a service somewhat reliably that nearly everyone needs. Before you decide to keep all your money with some other pay system, find out if that less-proven one puts their licensure information in public view for all to see and confirm, see if they have a toll-free number you can call to talk to a real human. All PayPal's faults notwithstanding, for now you would be remiss in placing a disproportionate amount of trust in a different payment processor.
