Some important things to think about regarding referral—or affiliate—programs: If there's nothing in it for those that cannot or do not want to recruit referrals, it is a scam. Any company running an affiliate program should have the product, not the business opportunity, as their focus. It is okay if they make you buy the product to participate in the affiliate program, but it is not all right for them to make you participate in the affiliate program in order to buy the product. See if the company provides you with advertising to use which doesn't emphasize or better yet even mention the business opportunity. Evaluate the product. Stephen King says don't give them what they want, give them what you want. Is the product you are considering selling something you buy yourself? Is it something that excites or interests you? or is it just a fad? Does it make sense when comparing cost and quality to something you can just go buy at the grocery store down the block? For the purposes of this page, with rare exception, an affiliate program pays you for both customers and new affiliates, and it pays at the very least two levels deep, but the more the merrier. A program in which you are merely paid for customers' purchases is a 'reseller program'—whether it calls itself that or not. Commissions on recurrent referral purchases should last forever. Most affiliate programs don't promote themselves, or else what would they need you for? If you have a web page find a product that fits, otherwise I recommend you investigate web traffic exchanges. While not absolutely necessary, I do like to see a logo from some disinterested third-party organization certifying that the affiliate program is not a scam of some sort.
